INDEX ARCHERS FAQ
WHY INDEX ARCHERS?
Passion, knowledge, experience, skill, empathy, and patience.
Most archers begin with the desire to learn how to shoot, but lack direction. They don’t know where to go or what to do. With a combination of the attributes noted above, Index Archers provides archers with the vital direction necessary for their archery journey.
If you are an archer, you know how important it is that the index of your arrow is placed in the correct position before executing a shot. If the index is not accurately positioned, a beautiful shot may not result in a good score. At Index Archers, we know how to guide an archer to make their journey a successful one.
HOW DOES INDEX ARCHERS’ COACHING STYLE VARY FROM OTHER CLUBS IN THE AREA?
The team at Index Archers has been a part of the archery community since 2010. We have been to every club in Maine, NH, Vermont, and Mass as participants at tournaments and fundraisers, and they have been to ours. The archery community is close knit and supportive, and every club’s team has its own character and style. Finding the one that is best suited to you is the challenge.
The information and experience provided by our team and associates is comprehensive. At Index Archers, we learned that being a successful archer requires more than shooting arrows again and again. In addition to good shooting form and practice, archers need to understand how their equipment works and how to maintain it from repairing arrows to making strings to tuning. Success also requires mindfulness, mental management, physical training, nutrition, and recovery. A combination of all these things result in confident, healthy, responsible, empathetic people who happen to know how to shoot a bow and arrows. We call them archers.
ARE THERE ANY AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN ARCHERY?
In order to take classes with Index Archers, children must be at least 8-years-old. The Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program is for archers ages 8-20. The Adult Archery Program (AAP) is for archers 21-years-old and up. There is no age cap. One of our favorite things about archery is that it’s a lifetime sport! The oldest archery Olympian was over 70-years-old!
HOW DOES ANYONE GET STARTED IN ARCHERY?
Our beginner level Explore class is designed to introduce anyone from 8 to 108 to the art of archery. This class is a requirement for anyone looking to participate in higher level classes or our Junior Olympic/Adult Achievement programs.
WHAT BENEFITS DO STUDENTS EXPERIENCE BY PARTICIPATING IN AN ARCHERY PROGRAM?
Many people are not aware of the skills and determination it requires to become an archer. Archery is an Olympic event in which athletes train for years to reach that level of competition. Each Index Archer is sure to gain strength, control, coordination & patience during their time in our athletic programs. Participants of all ages are able to work on their focus & self confidence through their archery journey. At Index Archers, one of our favorite benefits of archery is the meditative & mindful aspects of the sport. Children and adults alike learn how to connect with their breath, body movement & mental management.
I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN PURSUING ARCHERY AS A RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY VERSUS COMPETITION. CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE IN CLASSES AND PROGRAMS?
Absolutely! Our club is home to a variety of archers from competitive athletes to retirees looking to stay active. Archery is a wonderful family bonding activity, but archery also allows a place for ‘empty nesters’ to make new friends.
At Index Archers, we focus on creating a space that is open to archers from all backgrounds, but we also offer opportunities for advancement if desired. Each of our owners started archery for a more recreational reason and moved into the competitive world over many years.
